1968 Karmann Ghia | Riley

Looking for a car that will turn heads? This 1968 Karmann Ghia will do it. It’s sexy, sleek and stylish. And it has an amazing history too! This German-made beauty was first introduced in 1955 as a 2+2 coupe and later became available as a convertible in 1957. With over 445,000 made worldwide, this is one of the most gorgeous cars ever built.

The juicy details:

  • Porsche rims
  • Disc brakes
  • Air conditioning
  • Modern stereo
  • 1776 cc engine
  • Freeway Flyer transmission
  • Custom sparkly orange paint that still needs a kool name

You can learn more about the history of the Karmann Ghia here.

And if you're really, really, really into this build, you can watch Spook color sand and polish this 1968 Karmann Ghia.

Most likely, you'll be able to see Riley's 68 Ghia at our annual charity car show, too.

The Karmann Ghia is an amazing car with a great history.

Most people restore their vintage VWs to original condition or maybe even better condition than when it was new, but we take things one step further by turning these classic cars into kinetic art that can keep up on modern roads. We turn them into jaw-dropping works of art that are as fun to drive as they are beautiful to look at. This is not just some restoration job; this is a full restoration down to the bare metal. Every nut, bolt and panel gets lovingly restored and then lacquered so you won't find rust anywhere on our work of art!

Backstory

So many Volkswagen lovers remember their favorite Dub from long, long ago. Maybe it was the car they learned to drive in. Maybe they took that car off to school. And usually, that car is nothing but a favorite faded memory. But Ms. Riley's 1968 Karmann Ghia is the one she had as a kid. She drove it to school and then when she went off adulting, it sat in her dad's backyard for years. "Someday" she'd get it restored. (Sound familiar?) When she retired, someday came, and we can't wait for her to reunite with her old friend.
